Thomas D. Segel

Thomas D. Segel, a career journalist and broadcaster, completed 26 years of service in the United States Marine Corps, with the majority of his assignments spent in joint service commands covering military events and action throughout Asia. His post military career was as Director of Information for the Marine Military Academy, followed by employment as a Texas state official. His position at the time of retirement was Director for the Division of Information, Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, Rio Grande State Center.

Segel completed his under graduate work at the University of Texas - Pan American and his graduate studies at Vanderbilt University. He holds degrees in Government, English, and Institutional Advancement. He is the author of three books, including "Men in Space" (Paladin 1976) which was selected for the the national high school and junior high school recommended library lists. The writer is a twice wounded former combat correspondent who served in Korea and two tours of duty in Vietnam. Among his decorations are the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, two Air Force Commendation Medals, two Purple Heart Medals and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He received the Thomas Jefferson Award for Journalistic Excellence and was the 1972 Military Writer of the Year. Segel is also a past national president of the United States Marine Corps Combat Correspondents Association.

The father of Jason, a high school coach and teacher and the proud grandfather of two girls, Serena and Mariah, he now resides in Harlingen, Texas with wife Pattie.
