Rasmussen: Race for Governor is a tie Rassmussen Reports - Oct. 3, 2008
Barack Obama has regained his solid lead over John McCain in Washington, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of the state. Obama now leads McCain 53 percent to 43 percent. The gubernatorial race rematch between incumbent Democrat Christine Gregoire and GOP challenger Dino Rossi is now a tie.
Editor's Note -- We can thank the half million Californians who moved up to the Seattle area in the 1990s for turning our once conservative state into the liberal-left-leaning state that it is. That is the only explanation for Obama's lead over McCain in Washington. Still, for Rossi and Gregoire to be tied says a lot about voters' views of Gregoire and her poor performance as governor for the past 4 years.

Economy focus of third gubernatorial debate Shannon Dininny; Seattle P-I - Oct. 1, 2008
Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire and Republican challenger Dino Rossi took their gubernatorial race east of the Cascades into Washington farm country Wednesday night with the state's flagging economy as the main topic. Washington's revenue forecast has dropped by $530 million, pushing a projected deficit in the 2009-2011 budget period to about $3.2 billion, and the state jobless rate is at its highest level in nearly four years. Gregoire blamed economic woes on the federal government's inability to police Wall Street. Rossi cited what he called Gregoire's reckless spending as the cause. In addition to budget cuts, he said, the state needs to improve its climate for small businesses.

Martin Sheen to appear in ads against assisted suicide initiative I-1000 Yakima Herald - Sept. 29, 2008
The Coalition Against Assisted Suicide announced it has started a $750,000 broadcast advertising campaign, featuring Martin Sheen, who will be speaking against Initiative 1000, the assisted suicide measure on the November ballot. “I try to work when I’m not on the screen to help improve conditions for the most vulnerable people in our country — low-wage workers, immigrants, the disabled and the poor,” Sheen said. “We have a health care system where the more money you have, the better medical care you receive. Initiative 1000 is a dangerous idea — because so many people do not have the money necessary to get the care they need. When I heard about Initiative 1000, I wanted to help stop it before it harms people who are at risk.”
